The EagleConnect system has chat functionality that enables any EagleConnect user to chat with other EagleConnect users and UNT employees. This allows students to chat with other students and even professors!
The EagleConnect chat functionality uses the Microsoft Messenger service. You'll need a chat client capable of utilizing the Messenger service, such as Windows Messenger or
Windows Live Messenger.
Note =
Employees should use the Office Communicator with their UNT Exchange account to chat with EagleConnect users. Please see
this webpage for instructions.
Login to EagleConnect Chat
This example will use the Microsoft Live Messenger chat client, but all the information and procedures can be applied to other Messenger-capable chat clients. If you do not have Live Messenger, download the client
here.
- Open the Live Messenger chat client.
- Click the "Click here to login" link.
A login prompt will appear:
- Username is your EagleConnect ID. Make sure you include "@my.unt.edu".
- Password is your UNT EUID Password.

Add a UNT Contact
You need to add someone as a "contact" if you want to chat with that person. To add a contact, you'll need to know the EagleConnect address (for students) or the UNT Exchange address (for employees) of the person you want to chat with. Use the email address book to find the address of your contacts.
- Click the "Add a Contact" icon
and select "Add a contact...".
- Enter the EagleConnect (for students) or UNT Exchange (for employees) email address of the contact you want to add. Students will have an email address in the form of FirstnameLastname@my.unt.edu. Employees, such as professors, will have an email address in the form of Firstname.Lastname@unt.edu.
- Click the next button and send the chat invitation.
The contact will appear in your chat list! To chat with that person, click the contact name, and type a message in the chat window.
